A short commercial explaining problem gambling.
Most problem gamblers spend many years lying to family members about their gambling and financial problems. Family members
often feel ignored and rejected because many gamblers spend all their time finding money and spending it at the casino. As a result
of financial problems and emotional absence, the marriages of
problem gamblers end in separation or divorce at a very high rate. Children of the pathological gambler are probably the most
victimized by the illness. They are the target of parental abuse, both physical and verbal. A study published by Cambridge
University reports that children who come from a family with a
compulsive gambler have lower academic performance in school, as compared to their peers.
They are also more likely to abuse drugs, struggle with eating
disorders, and become compulsive gamblers themselves.
Additionally, nearly 37% of gamblers’ spouses have physically abused their children as a result of the frustration of dealing
with gambling.
All play no work.
The workplace is primarily affected through lost time, lost productivity and indesperate situations the gambler may resort to theft. Individuals with gambling problems become completely pre-occupied with gambling. The workday is often spent either, in the act of gambling, planning the next gambling opportunity, or plotting to get money for gambling.
